Through our work to engage the people most impacted by conflicts and to support the peacebuilding efforts of regional institutions, we build community resilience to face complex problems: the effects of climate change, the spread of violent extremism, and escalating conflicts between farmers and herders.
PROTECTING OUR COMMUNITIES: BUILDING ON WOMEN’S AND YOUTH’S KNOWLEDGE TO INCREASE CIVILIAN SECURITY (2019-present)
Protecting Our Communities engages communities of farmers and herders in preventing the spread of violent conflict and stopping existing conflicts from escalating. We are working to build the capacity of community members to reduce violence, with a particular focus on engaging women and youth.

We assisted the Commission of Peace and Security of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)—a 15-nation trading bloc headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria—as part of the USAID-funded REWARD program. Our activities supported ECOWAS’ work to strengthen the effectiveness of their response to early warning of emerging conflicts.
